Barcelona MVP

As the season nears a close, its time to decide who the Barcelona Best Player of the Year was. Although no awards will be given out for this, its just for the fans to know.

Here's an editors view from Goal.com.

Before you read it though, I would like to get your opinion.

OK, now read.

(Skip to "my vote" if you dont want to read)

Andrés INIESTA

Perhaps the closest thing Barça have to a "Mr. Dependable" in an attacking sense, Iniesta is now in his fourth season as a first team regular. It's difficult to see him being dislodged now, and with six years left to run on his contract, he's here for the long term.

That's good news for the club as Iniesta is fast marking himself out as a naturally gifted midfielder. While it hasn't been the best of seasons for the Barcelona central line, the Albacete boy has excelled in practically every role he's been cast into. On a few occasions, around New Year mainly, he was perhaps the attacking influence on the team, too.

It's a fair amount of pressure on a guy that's only 23 years of age, but Iniesta, who appears to be the quiet sort, is dealing with it without difficulty or drama. Surely this will only continue.

Lionel MESSI

The young Argentine forms just one quarter of the Fantastic Four in terms of his physical person - less if we're going by height - but in a season in which Ronaldinho has been largely anonymous (cough cough)

and Thierry Henry struggling, he is worth far more.

While his own campaign has for the second season running been struck by injury, he remains an incredibly positive influence up front, not least when he's given space in which to operate. True, he reacts badly to 'anti-football' and can drift out of games against such sides, but it's just as likely that a moment of magic can see him pull off a vital goal or assist.

The fact that he managed six strikes in the midst of Barça's ill-fated Champions League campaign, meanwhile, also speaks for itself.

Yaya TOURÉ

I previously named Touré as the best summer signing of the season not only for Barça but for Spain as a whole, and I stand by this assertion. Touré has come into what has been a cursed spot in the Barcelona midfield since Edmílson's fall from grace and converted it into one of their few positions that can well and truly be considered solid.

Eric Abidal and even Gabriel Milito have been accused of being unable to make the step up to Barça despite rising up from prestigious clubs - Lyon and Zaragoza - but Touré, who came from Lyon's junior Ligue 1 colleagues Monaco, has had no such difficulty. He has settled in with consummate ease and can be considered a must-pick next season should the blaugrana operate with one defensive midfielder or two.

Carles PUYOL

Barcelona's defence has come in for no end of criticism this year, but if one looks at the facts, the back line isn't as bad as first feared. In fact, the blaugrana have shipped just 33 goals so far in the Liga - fewer than any other side except champions Real Madrid. That's how many they conceded in 38 games last season, and it's not unimaginable that they'll end the campaign with the same total.

While Puyol has committed a few high-profile errors, he has overall been a steadying influence at the back. With the full-backs all too often posted missing, he has covered plenty of ground, and, as befits a captain, he's not often shy about organising things as he sees fit.

Victor VALDÉS

The much-maligned goalkeeper is not everyone's choice for number one at Camp Nou, and to be fair, there's a lot to be said for that point of view. But, like Puyol, a few errors aside he has overall been a reliable influence.

Few would say that he's on a par with Iker Casillas but, as Johan Cruyff pointed out, he's generally had less to do. And what he has done, he's done well the bulk of the time. There's a chance that he could usurp Andrés Palop as Spain's number three this summer based on his improvements this year: he's slightly more commanding in the box than he used to be.

His tendency to misjudge crosses is perhaps his greatest failing, but this, too, is on the wane, and as such Valdés can be considered not only a decent performer but also much-improved. The debate will rage on as to whether or not he is truly Barcelona standard, but he certainly marked himself out as a fine Liga goalkeeper this season, whatever happens.

My Vote:
My vote goes to Andrés Iniesta. At times he has been almost the sole motivating force pushing Barcelona forward, and on most occasions - this Sunday aside - he has been conspicuous by his absence during times of injury.

Comment what you think.

Real Madrid beat Barca and Seize Title with Pride

Real Madrid trashed Barcelona. 4-1. There I said it. Thats it, theres no hiding from the facts, Real Madrid are indefinitely better this season. :-(

It was a match that Madrid deserved to win. Barcelona defense looked like they came up from the 4th leage of Australia, Midfield looked at best less than mediocre, and Forwards were bad too, the only consolation coming from Henry's fine goal.

Watch:

Sigh. Tsk Tsk Barcelona.

This means that Real Madrid have seized the Spanish La Liga Title.

Comment what you think about the match, what can be done with Barcelona, and anything else that comes to mind.

Ronaldinhos Night Life

Check out this article, found on goal.com

"Daniel Garcia Marco, a journalist who writes for the DPA Agency went to the effort of describing in great detail how Ronaldinho spent his night on the eve of Barcelona's Champions League semi-final second leg showdown with Manchester United.

Of course, the Brazilian was out injured for the match, but instead of focusing on his recovery, he preferred to go out until the early hours of the morning.

According to the reporter, the night began at 12:30 pm, when Ronaldinho had dinner with six friends at the Casanova Beach Club, a restaurant/pub that was recently inaugurated in the Paseo Maritimo de Castelldefels (Barcelona).

Ronaldinho enjoyed a feast with friends, that included eating a variety of different meats, and was topped off with a succulent buffet of tarts for dessert.

This time the Barcelona footballer chose the new restaurant of Mimo, who also owns Casanova. Ronaldinho has his own private section at the restaurant which is often referred to as "The Section of the Legend". Ronaldinho and his entourage regularly enjoy spaghetti carbonara and a selection of red meats from the menu.

But the intensity of the night increased when Ronaldinho and company consumed several beers with lemon, with the occassional glass of wine. Often the drinks are on the house, but on other days Ronaldinho pays the fat bill, and sometimes he leaves a tip of up to twelve euros, or at times he doesn't leave anything.

The staff at the restaurant always affirm that Ronaldinho is a pleasure to have, as he always respects everybody, and doesn't mind chatting to people who greet him.

"He is always alert. He is like this with the clients who greet him, but mainly with the children," a worker stated. Ronaldinho signs several Barcelona jerseys, and makes sure everyone has had a chance to talk to him.

At 1:15 am, Ronaldinho and company left the Casanova Beach Club in two Range Rovers and headed off to "Sandunguita", a Caribbean-themed club in Port Ginestra, close to Castelldefels.

When there, Ronaldinho greeted his friends with kisses and hugs. He asked for beer (lots of it), and those were are present - including lots of Brazilians - observed a Ronaldinho who was dressed in all white for the occassion.

At 2:00 am the party begins. Much reggaeton and Rihanna hit single 'Umbrella' gave way for live samba and funk. According to the journalist, Ronaldinho sung, played the drums and danced like there was no tomorrow all night long.

He had several more beers, and even helped in breaking up a fight. He then continued to dance, without even thinking about the injury that hasn't allowed him to see any action on the football field for a couple of weeks. On the dance floor he showed off some amazing moves, many of which he has brought onto the football field. Defenders worldwide would have been familiar with each one of them - with Milan, Inter and Manchester City all hopeful to witness them week in week out next season.

At 4:00 am the samba came to a stop and paved the way for more reggaeton. At this point, Ronaldinho allegedly took off his shirt, and while surrounded by beautiful women, continued to show off all his dancing skills. No-one would have thought he is recovering from an injury.

The nightclub usually closes at 5am, according to the owners, but it was way past this hour and the Sandunguita was still open, and Ronaldinho, who had his hands full with great company, showed off a huge smile that hasn't been seen at the Camp Nou for some time now. It seems like Ronaldinho has found better things to do than to play football."

Barcelona 6-0 Valencia

Yes! A Barcelona that I like seeing!

Barcelona scored 6 past a relegation battling Valencia.

Barcelona played well, no doubt about that, and they scored 3 in the first 15 minutes to end it as a contest.

Messi scored a penalty on the 4th minute, Xavi scored on the edge of the box, then Henry scored from and Eto'o pass. Then Barcelona slowed down, and Messi missed a great chance on the 40th minute. Half ended 3-0. Then after the restart Henry immediately added another, then Bojan scored twice after he came on for Eto'o.

Highlights: Posted up later.

Good job Barca!

Ronaldinho Getting Interest

Recently, Manchester City has announced it would pay 40 million euro for Ronaldinho, while AC Milan set its price atr 15 million.

Reports have stated that Barcelona are wanting 35 million euros.

However, the AC Milan agent Bronzetti has stated-

"I am aware of the attention of Manchester City for Ronaldinho, who have proposed to pay Barcelona €40 million (£31.6 million)," revealed Bronzetti.

"But he only wants Milan, we talked together in Barcelona at the Formula 1 Grand Prix."

"Rossoneri have an agreement with the player, now they deal with the Catalan club."

It seems unless Milan pull out more cash, Ronaldinho will never see San Siro.
